Soils were collected from 60 representative forest sites distributed along a ~4500 km north–south transect in eastern China. The sampling network covers the major forest biomes present in China, including tropical (7 sites), subtropical (25 sites), warm-temperate (11 sites), cool-temperate (9 sites), and boreal (8 sites). The dataset include site information, the temperature of soil microbial growth, edaphic properties, soil resources, and microbial properties.
