VPRS 2929 Executive Council Register of Miscellaneous Applications

The Executive Council of Victoria, (VA 2903) currently comprising the Governor and Ministers of the Crown meets weekly for the formal exercise of the Governors executive authority. This Council has been given numerous specific powers under various Acts of Parliament. Between 1851 and 1855 the Governor as the executive arm of Government was not subject to parliamentary control with the Council then composed of the main appointed officers of the administration with the Governor.This series consists of a Register listing applications made to the Governor-in Council as provided in a variety of Acts of parliament. Applications were for the reservation of land for public purposes such as reserves, cemeteries and churches, petitions, for the approval of municipal by-laws and the proclamation of municipalities and changes to municipal boundaries, for the approval of sets of regulations and for certificates of remission.Details given are the dates of registration in both the Council and Colonial Secretarys Register, the nature of the application and by whom it was made, name and the date when the application was considered by the Executive Council.
