Floating Wetland Treatments to Enhance Remediation (FLOWTER) Study- Conventional Heavy Crude Oil

The goal of this experiment was to monitor changes to the microbial community on engineered floating wetland roots upon exposure to a model oil spill of conventional heavy crude oil following primary recovery (shoreline washing) in a wetland shoreline enclosure experiment conducted at the IISD Experimental Lakes Area, northwestern Ontario, Canada in 2021. The study included an experimental enclosure (EE; oiled), a reference enclosure (RE; unoiled), and a lake reference site (LR; unoiled). The microbial community was analyzed using 16S and 18S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.
