<br>Graphical abstract of the article:"On the Simple Complexity of Carbon Monoxide on Oxide Surfaces: Facet-Specific Donation and Backdonation Effects Revealed on TiO2 Anatase Nanoparticles"ChemPhysChem. doi:10.1002/cphc.201600284<br>IR and modeling studies on TiO<sub>2</sub> nanoparticles reveal that the stretching frequency of adsorbed CO results from a synergic donation/backdonation mechanism, by which the surface oxygen anions act as electron donors even if not directly bonded to the adsorbate.<br><br>This item also contains an additional figure of the Ti sites and a simplified representation of the Ti-CO bonding mechanism.
