Impact of Mechanization on Punjabi Jutti Craft: An Exploratory Study on Cultural Heritage and Artisan Livelihood

This repository contains the comprehensive dataset collected from fifty Punjabi jutti artisans in Patiala, India, documenting their craft techniques, materials, production processes, and socio-economic challenges. The dataset includes anonymized survey responses, semi-structured interview summaries, and images of artisans engaged in various stages of jutti-making. It is intended to support research on traditional Indian footwear, textile heritage preservation, artisan livelihoods, and sustainable craft practices. By providing both qualitative and quantitative insights, this dataset facilitates comparative studies, policy formulation, and educational initiatives in textile and cultural studies.The data was collected via semi-structured interviews between 2023 and 2024. It highlights the socio-economic conditions, traditional techniques, and contemporary challenges faced by the artisans. The Excel columns include age, gender, education, monthly income, years of experience, materials used, production place, selling platform, satisfaction, challenges, traditional motifs, and colors.
