Unit 16 was a large, elongate adobe room on the western edge of the Black Mountain phase pueblo. It was excavated in 1995 by Wesley Bernardini, assisted by Kate Stinger and Sky Wheeler. Unit 16 (as well as unexcavated rooms designated Rooms V and W) represent fairly early construction in that area. These rooms were not well dated, but they are interpreted as Black Mountain phase because of their adobe walls. After its collapse, Unit 16 was overlain by a series of rooms (including Units 13, 18, and 19), oriented at a different angle.
