Drought tolerance is critical for tomato improvement, and increasing the root-to-shoot ratio (R/S) represents a key adaptive strategy. While trehalose-6-phosphate phosphatase (TPP) genes are implicated in plant drought responses, their role in modulating R/S remains unclear. Our study unveils a novel pathway whereby TPP1 enhances drought tolerance by coordinately regulating R/S. These findings provide insights for engineering drought-resistant crops.
