Avian malaria parasite metatranscriptomes

We sequenced the blood transcriptomes of wild birds that were naturally infected with haemosporidian (malaria) parasites in the genera Leucocytozoon, Parahaemoproteus, and Plasmodium. Our goal was to determine whether a dual RNA-Seq approach can efficiently generate genomic data for malaria parasites, and if so, whether we can identify consistent patterns of gene expression across parasite species.
