资源简介:
This report relates to a medieval and post-medieval cemetery at Midland Road, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire (NGR TL 18399 99053, Figure 1). The cemetery was originally associated with the medieval leper hospital of St Leonard which was founded by 1125. This site is of national importance, as relatively few cemeteries relating to leper hospitals have been excavated. Initially, seven evaluation trenches were excavated, four of which yielded possible graves. The evaluation led to an archaeological excavation designed to recover all the human remains at the site (Figure 2). Both the evaluation and excavation were undertaken by Archaeological Services, Durham University, with the evaluation and excavation being supervised by N. Thomas and N. Swann respectively. The report for the evaluation was prepared by Dye and Jenkins (2014) while the excavation was reported on by Swann (2015). The present publication report was prepared by staff of York Archaeological Trust and A. Boyle.
