A targeted enrichment protocol in combination with ONT-long-read sequencing have been applied to efficiently annotate the chimpanzee KIR genomic regions. Using Cas9 endonuclease activity, segments of the complex KIR gene cluster were enriched and sequenced on an Oxford Nanopore Technologies platform. This method was previously succesfully applied to human and rhesus macaque KIR region and published by Bruijnesteijn et al in Frontiers in Immunology 2021
