We sampled three distinct spider mite strains for preparation of a transcriptome database which can be used for design of a microarray, and other means of expression analysis, to study mite responses to different plant diets i.e. plants with different constitutive and/or induced defenses. Strain Tetranychus urticae Santpoort1 was selected for the fact that it induces only very weak defense responses in tomato plants.
