This proposal aims to gain significant insight in the energy storage capacity of a new type of all-solid-state oxygen ion batteries, by studying the local chemical and structural changes of the electrode. We will determine the cation valence states of three promising thin film oxides (LSC, LSF and LNO) by in situ XANES as a function of electrode polarisation, temperature and time, which in combination with complementary ex situ analysis will allow us to advance the understanding of potential-dependent oxidation states, segregation and short-term degradation phenomena, necessary to boost battery capacity and lifetime.
