Our project concern a work on FtrABCD, a ferrous iron transport system present in different pathogenic bacteria. We have focused more particularly our study on the FtrA and started on FtrB protein, two periplasmic proteins. We combined different approaches such as X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, microcalorimetry and EPR to elucidate the iron binding steps. Our data allow us to propose an alternative model to explain the transport of ferrous iron through the FtrABCD system.
