Sequencing of patterns of spatial self-organization

We conducted experiments with a synthetic microbial community consisting of two isogenic strains of the bacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri. The two strains cross-feed nitrite when grown with an exogenous supply of nitrate. The two strains self-organize across space and form two fundamentally different patterns of spatial self organization at the same time and length scale. This project investigated whether there is a genetic basis of the two different patterns.
