Data set of "Bibliometric study on Public Policies for Sport and Leisure in Brazil in the last two decades (2003 to 2023)"

1. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the scientific production on Public Sports and Leisure Policies (PPEL) in Brazil between the years 2003 and 2023. 2. Methodology: Quali-quantitative methods, of a descriptive-analytical nature, were used to search for publications in the main international scientific databases, accessed through the “Portal de Periódicos Capes”, using the descriptors “public policies”, “sport”, “leisure” and their combination. 3. Findings: Results revealed 208 articles in 39 journals. The Qualis classification of these journals ranged from C to A1, with B2 and B4 being the most prevalent. There was a prevalence in the investigation of municipal policies (42.3%), the preference for analyzes of the term Policy (73.6%) and the concentration of studies on policies implemented by the Executive Branch (72.6%). 4. Practical Implications: This study serves as a reference for identifying possible lacuna to be investigated in this field. 5. Research Contribution: This study provides knowledge for decision-making about the incentive to research in this area in the various institutions of higher education in Brazil. 6. Value: We present a time frame of the last two decades, characterizing the latest scientific production about public sports and leisure policies in Brazil.
