CO2 emissions from the building sector in the U.S. 2022, by segment and source

Residential buildings had a higher volume of energy-related CO2 emissions than commercial ones in the United States in 2022. For both types of buildings, most of those emissions came from the generation of electricity for its use in buildings. Coal was by far the less common source of energy for buildings based on the low level of carbon dioxide emissions.
