Household out-of-pocket expenditure on pharmaceuticals in Italy 2012-2023

Italian households' annual out-of-pocket expenditure on pharmaceuticals increased overall from 2012 to 2023. Indeed, as the graph shows, after starting at approximately 9.4 billion euros in 2012, Italian families’ spending on pharmaceuticals reached a value of around 11 billion euros in 2023. During the period, the out-of-pocket expenditure of Italian families on pharmaceuticals and other medical non-durable goods increased by almost 17 percent.
