The dataset contains data on saproxylic beetles sampled in 2012 by flight-interception traps (FIT) hanged on 235 trees in floodplain woodlands along the lower Dyje and Morava rivers (SE Czech Republic).For more information see the article entitled 'Changes in β-diversity of saproxylic beetles along environmental gradients in temperate forests depend on species relative abundances' by Sebek et al. in Journal of Biogeography. The dataset consists of three spreadsheets called Environmental, Beetle records, and Tree phylogeny.Environmental: A table with environmental variables for all trees sampled for saproxylic beetles assemblages by flight-interception traps in floodplain woodlands along the lower Dyje and Morava rivers (SE Czech Republic). Variable description: treeID = unique tree identifier; N and E = latitudinal (North) and longitudinal (East) geographic coordinates; Tree genus = tree genus identity (latin name); Diameter = diameter of a tree at breast height (measured at 1.3 m above ground); Canopy openness = a percentage of open sky 20 m around the tree (fully shaded trees = 0%, fully open-grown trees = 100%).Beetle records: A species by sample matrix of abundances of 676 saproxylic beetle species recorded during the sampling. Abbreviated names of beetle species are given in the first column, tree (sample) identifiers are given in the first row. The tree identifiers correspond to the tree identifiers ('treeID') in the Environmental spreadsheet.Tree phylogeny: A Newick format for phylogeny of six tree genera sampled for saproxylic beetle assemblages. The format code (and an image included) is a simplified pruned tree based on the original phylogeny of Durka & Michalski (2012).
