Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU), NSF NHERI 2025: Measuring Settlements due to Liquefaction and Seismic Activity in Bridge Foundations

This project is about evaluating the settlement of shallow bridge foundation over deep liquifiable layers of soil in the events of an earthquake with 3-dimensional LiDAR scanning. This paper can be reused by providing a foundation for using 3D LiDAR scanning in projects with liquefaction and settlement. This project is unique due to the fact that there is little research about the settlement of shallow bridge foundations over liquifiable soils. This project is also especially unique because it evaluates this unique subject with 3D scanning. The audience are researchers hoping to evaluate settlement with 3D scanning.
