Genomic Investigation and Long-term Stability Study of Two Novel Casjensviridae Bacteriophages Infecting Klebsiella pneumoniae Strains

K. pneumoniae is renowned as one of the most life-threatening bacterial species due to its high mortality rates and resistance profile. To explore alternative solutions, this study discovered and investigated two viruses that can kill this bacterium namely PIN1 and PIN2 bacteriophages. The study investigated how these viruses recognize the bacterial target and how the viruses survive under different storage conditions. PIN1 and PIN2 demonstrated effective killing ability and high stability under long-term storage making them promising candidates for future development as biocontrol agents for antibiotic-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in a broad ranges applications.
