资源简介:
In this 1961 journal McEvey visits airfields around Australia in an attempt to answer the following questions:
Which species of birds are regularly present on or over airfields?
Which species are known to breed on or near airfields?
Do birds exhibit unusual behaviour on airfields?
What is the frequency and manner of strikes?
Do any birds constitute a hazard?
The journal is filled with McEvey's own sightings and observations, as well notes from his interviews with airfield staff and members of the RAAF and DCA. This historic document was produced between the 1959 announcement that a new international airport would be built at Tullamarine and its official opening in 1970.
Allan Reginald McEvey became the Curator of Birds at the National Museum of Victoria in 1955. For the next 30 years he made an invaluable contribution to the museum’s ornithological collection, particularly to the avian osteological (bone) collection, which he developed into one of the best in the world. He was President of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU) from 1968 to 1969 and was elected a Fellow of the RAOU in 1980. The total number of tasks for this dataset is: 226, number transcribed is 226 and number validated is 1.
