Coccosphere and coccolith geometry

The datasets include coccolith length (μm), coccolith area (μm2), mean coccolith thickness (μm), coccosphere diameter (μm), cell diameter (μm), coccosphere PIC content (pg CaCO3), cell POC content (pg organic C), corrected mean coccolith thickness (μm), coccolith mass (pg), lateral coccolith aspect ratio (ARL), estimated number of coccoliths per cell (Nc), and coccolithophore PIC:POC molar ratio. We find a significant correlation between coccolithophore PIC:POC and ARL which describes the coccolith geometry. Therefore, based on this relationship, we can reconstruct ancient coccolithophore PIC:POC based on individual coccolith geometry in marine sediment archives.
