Prokaryotic microbial community in the eastern tropical North Pacific oxygen deficient zone

As marine oxygen deficient zones (ODZ) expand due to anthropogenic influences, understanding microbial community structures will be crucial in forecasting potential changes in marine ecosystems as oxygen concentrations decrease. These changes will influence marine life and human life, with less ocean volume for fisheries and increased greenhouse gas production contributing to the global climate feedback loop.This study aims to determine the microbial community composition using 16S amplicon sequencing along redox gradients in the eastern tropical North Pacific (ETNP) ODZ off the coast of Mexico and explore what may influence these variations in community composition.
