This study aims to demonstrate the applicability of adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE) strategy for enhancing microalgal tolerance against chemical stress agent. Specifically, the acid hydrolysate of residual microalgal biomass contains toxic furanic compounds; and a selected Chlorella mother strain was subjected to the treatment of the corresponding furanic compound(s) for an extended period time through continual re-inoculation in flask cultures. Samples collected nearly a year after was sequenced to elucidate SNP, InDel, and possibly SV to understand likely mechanisms associated with the adaptation.
