Users can download data regarding the characteristics and adoption experiences of families of adoptive children with special health care needs . BackgroundThe National Survey of Adoptive Parents of Children with Special Health Care Needs is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and is sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). This survey provides information regarding characteristics, pre-adoption experiences and post-adoption support experiences of families of adoptive children with special health care needs. Topics include , but are not limited to: type of adoption, birth family contact, developmental problems, adoption support, behavioral difficulties, and medical problems. User FunctionalityUsers can download the survey instrument, methodology report, and codebook as PDFs. The public-access dataset can be downloaded into SAS statistical software. Demographic information is available for race/ethnicity, sex/gender, and ability. Data Notes The NSAP-CSHCN telephone interview was administered to parents who have adopted a child with special health care needs who was 0 to 15 years old in 2005-2006. Children were identified as being adopt ed through the US foster care system, domestic private adoption agencies, or international adoption agencies. Parents were identified through the National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs (NSCSHCN). Data were collected between January and June 2008. Information is available on national and state levels.
