Synthesis and spectral properties for 3, 7-dithiatricyclo[6.4.0.0²˒¹⁰.0 ⁹˒¹¹]dodecane (norDTCO) and 3-λ⁴, 7-dithiatricyclo[6.4.0.0²˒¹⁰.0 ⁹˒¹¹]dodecan-3-one (norDTCO sulfoxide)

The synthesis, tabulated infrared and 1H NMR spectra of the title compounds: 3, 7-dithiatricyclo[6.4.0.02,10.09,11]dodecane (norDTCO) and 3λ4, 7-dithiatricyclo[6.4.0.02,10.09,11]dodecan-3-one (norDTCO sulfoxide) are presented. The compound norDTCO is a substituted 1,5-dithiocane which can oxidize chemically or electrochemically by two-electrons to a dication with a transannular S-S sigma-bond. Its derivative, norDTCO sulfoxide, is the ultimate product after a two-electron oxidation and the addition of water.
