Gene annotation in marbled crayfish

The marbled crayfish is a parthenogenetic crustacean which has received increasing attention as an ideal model system for neurobiology and other disciplines. Here, we have identified and annotated a few genes of interest in the species using sequence homology from the publicly available whole genome sequence assembly. Gene expression was validated using RT-PCR and current work is in progress to further understand the functional relevance of the genes using screening approaches.
