Beyond footwear: apparel and dressing in emergency department injuries among adults aged 65 and over, United States, 2005-2024

Code and derived data behind the manuscript "Beyond footwear: apparel and dressing in emergency department injuries among adults aged 65 and over, United States, 2005-2024". Emergency department visits recorded by the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System for 2005-2024 in which a garment or a shoe appears, for adults aged 65 and over: 39,246 cases in the analysis panel, of which 35,414 were worn. Each case narrative is coded into the garment item, the design attribute named and the mechanism of injury by the published rule set in 20_scripts/codebook.json, and every coded case keeps the matched text that produced its label. The archive holds the full pipeline (harvest, coding, Census and SEER denominators, age-standardised rates with stratified variance, the weighted severity model, seasonality, the ascertainment audit and the time-use exposure denominator), the derived data those scripts write, the five figures at 300 and 1000 dpi, the nine manuscript tables and the value registry. The annual source files are not redistributed: 10_raw/neiss_manifest.csv carries the URL, byte count, row count and SHA-256 of each of the 20 files the analysis read. A product code records that a garment was present in a case, not that it caused the injury, and the number of people wearing each garment is unknown, so nothing here compares the risk of one garment against another.
