Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Effective and safe treatments are urgently needed. Within the cancer cells, there is over expression of a particular protein called, P2X7R. This thesis describes P2X7R function in pre-clinical models of glioblastoma. It also describes a small molecule inhibitor of P2X7R, as a way of reducing tumour growth. The work described is hoped to lead to future clinical studies and potential novel therapeutic strategies for treatment of this devastating cancer.
