<p><font size='4'>Kenai Peninsula landcover classification using 4 summer 2002 Landsat7 ETM+ satellite images, USGS digital elevation model (DEM), and 4,074 ground locations collected from various sources. The DEM grid size was 30m x 60m resampled to 30m x 30m and this is the minimum mapping unit for the classification. Erdas Imagine was used to process images and eCognition was used for the classification. eCognition is an object oriented classifier that partitions data layers into homogeneous patches, or objects. Ground locations associated with land cover classes were used to assign classes to corresponding objects in eCognition and, based upon their similarity to other objects (nearest neighbor), the classes were projected across the landscape, producing a map with 26 landcover classes.</font><br /></p>
