Data and codes necessary to reproduce the results and support the findings of "Surface ocean production dominates global oceanic nitrous oxide emissions". Model outputs was calculated from the period 1980-2024. This folder includes 1) MOM6-COBALTv3-N2O (model): - src: source code. - builds: compile script and required package, and exeutable files. - exps: model configuration and running script. Note: More details about model running could be found on https://github.com/NOAA-GFDL/MOM6-examples and https://github.com/NOAA-GFDL/CEFI-regional-MOM6. Expected time to run 1 model year: 40-60 minutes/~1500 CPU 2) figure_making: the python script to plot figures. Software: Jupyter Notebook Version: 7.2.2 Required package: /figure_making/global_packages.py Required functions: /figure_making/global_functions.py Instruction for Jupyter Notebook installation: https://jupyter.org/install "Normal" time to install Jupyter Notebook and packages: 20-30 minutes Expected time to run plotting scripts: 30 minutes 3) data: data required to plot figures, including post-processed model outputs and collected observation-based data. Note: In Figure ED1, Data points are from field-based environmental manipulation experiments (Beman et al. 2012; Bristow et al. 2016; Horak et al. 2018; Xu et al. 2019; Wan et al., 2021; Frey et al. 2023) and not included here. The detailed references could be found in /figure_making/FigED1_NitrificationParameterization_withDataPoints.ipynb 4) figures: plotted figures. Note: Data for Figures 2c,d and ED4 could be found in /data/Fig2_N2O_emission_budget.nc and /data/FigED4_N2Obudget_decomposedtracer.xlsx.
