A comprehensive understanding of geomorphological and hydrogeological processes in high mountainous catchments holds significance for a proper water resources assessment under the global change. This is particularly relevant in the Mediterranean region where groundwater from carbonate aquifers serves as the primary source for base-flows of many rivers and streams. In this sense, the research we presented here explore the links between landform evolution and hydrological behaviour in two adjacent Mediterranean carbonate valleys (Segura and Zumeta, SE Spain). For this, the study combines (1) a 13 DEM-based morphometric indices and normalized river profiles (thalwegs); and (2) a three-year dataset of hydrodynamic (flow-rate), physico-chemical (temperature, mineralization, and turbidity), and isotopic (radon-gas activity) water measurements. From this methodology, barely used before in the bibliography, the spatial variations of the magnitude of knick-points slope (a-KPS) was analysed and Flow-Surface (FS) curves was built. All this allow us to identify not clear groundwater discharges along the rivers, but also asses hydrogeological functioning of the aquifer and the migration of the surface and groundwater divide. In this sense, we was able to evaluate why higher groundwater resources are flowing into the Segura valley (30.50 hm3/year), despite its smaller drainage surface with respect to the Zumeta (16.93 hm3/year).
