Bacterial community associated with oil spill in the Red Sea

Total DNA was extracted from seawater samples collected in proximity of an oil spill occurred about 100 km off the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah on October 11th, 2019. Three stations were collected: Station S1 (S1: 22.11N, 38.64E) located in the northeast of the original spillsite, at a distance of about 120 km from the tanker, where the least spillimpact was detected; Station 2 and station 3 located in two oil spilled area respectively at 70 km and 50 km away from the spill site (S2: 21.75N, 38.27E and and S3: 21.61N, 38.19E). Microbiological analyses were performed on the total DNA extracted by phenol-chloroform protocol, using high-throughput amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA gene.
