Draft genome sequence of Edwardsiella piscicida. Edwardsiella piscicida strain:RSB1309, JF1305

Edwardsiella tarda is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic, bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae. A recent study revealed the presence of a novel species named as Edwardsiella piscicida within the group of organisms traditionally classified as E. tarda. E. piscicida is genetically distinct, but phenotypically indistinguishable from E. tarda. We isolated Edwardsiella from olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) cultured in Kagoshima, Japan in May 2013, and from red sea bream (Pagrus major) cultured in Kochi Prefecture, Japan in September 2013. By PCR assay with published species-specific primers, the isolates from olive flounder and red sea bream were identified as E. piscicida and E. piscicida-like, respectively. These draft genome sequence are annotated and compared for understanding genetic differences between E. piscicida and E. piscicida-like.
