Why we perform music, investigate the variables that affect performing musical instruments

People almost always participate in music as an artistic pursuit. This study will focus on four characteristics of music: self-music concept (SMO), cognitive need (NFC), experiential openness, and curiosity. Through two cross-sectional examinations, we establish that there is an underlying internal relationship between the four variables and that they are strongly related. While there appears to be no apparent direct association between them and whether or not they perform music, there is a positive correlation between the two. Using mediation analysis, we discover that SMO mediates the relationship between openness and whether or not to practice musical instruments via the impact of NFC and curiosity. Overall, the study highlights the little-known topic of who is truly playing the instrument
