Data from "Ecology dictates the value of memory for foraging bees".

Methods

Briefly, experiments utilised a lab-to-field approach to assess how the short term memory (STM) of bees influences individual foraging efficiency across the foraging season (April-October). See publication for full details.

Data sets

ram_score_data – ram peformanced data for each bee; description of data included in file.

nectar_foraging_data – nectar foraging data for each STM-tested bee; description of data included in file.

pollen_foraging_data – pollen foraging data for each STM-tested bee; description of data included in file.

survival_data – number of days survived by STM-tested bees; description of data included in file.

lifetime_foraging_data – number of foraging trips per bee over its career, recorded using RFID; description of data included in file.

control_bee_comparison_nectar – nectar data used in comparisons of foraging efficiency between STM-nested and control (non-tested) bees; description of data included in file.

control_bee_comparison_pollen – pollen data used in comparisons of foraging efficiency between STM-nested and control (non-tested) bees; description of data included in file.

control_bee_comparison_survival – survival data used in comparisons of survival between STM-nested and control (non-tested) bees; description of data included in file.

floral_data – generic richness data across season; description of data included in file.

gross_foraging_data – gross nectar and pollen foraging data, and bout duration; description of data included in file.

ram_validation – simulated performance of bees completing an eight-arm maze using chance of stereotyped movement rules; description of data included in file; description of data included in file.

pollen_genera – number of pollen identified from bee collected pollen per week of experiment.
