Low mass transfer in sediment limited the efficiency and application of a sediment microbial electrochemical system (SMES) either as a power generator or as a practical in-situ bioremediation technology. In this study, we designed a new plant SMES which improved the mass transfer, in-situ microorganism activities and biodegradation of pollutants.
