资源简介:
This collection comprises data from a historic building investigation and recording and an archaeological watching brief that took place during the refurbishment of No. 59 St John Street, Oxford. This work was undertaken by Oxford Archaeology from June 2022-January 2023 and in October 2023. The refurbishment has exposed fabric throughout No. 59 that has aided in the understanding of its development, particularly elements that were supposed to remain hidden, such as the extensive use of brick, limestone rubble, and narrow timbers to economise on material costs. More original fabric was found to have survived than previously suggested and this helped to illuminate the living history of No. 59. For instance, visual denotations of status in the complexity of mouldings indicated whether a room was intended for public entertainment or for the family or servants.
