Loss-of-function mutations result in doxycycline resistance in Burkholderia pseudomallei. Burkholderia pseudomallei

This study included an isogenic B. pseudomallei strain pair isolated from a recrudescent melioidosis patient. The first isolate was susceptible to doxycycline with the following isolate resistant to doxycycline. The goal of this study was to use whole genome sequencing together with cloning methods to unravel the mechanisms leading to B. pseudomallei doxycycline resistance. This study highlights the potential for the emergence of doxycycline resistance during melioidosis treatment and the need for regular resistance monitoring.
