A study on the citation impact of Open Science Indicators in the French Open Science Monitor

This study investigates the citation impact of various open science practices within the French Open Science Monitor (FOSM) dataset, which includes approximately 900,000 publications by French authors from 2020 to 2022. By integrating data from OpenAlex and Crossref, we analyze open science indicators (OSI) such as preprint publication, data sharing, and software sharing. Our analysis reveals a positive correlation between these practices and citation counts. Considering our most complete model, we have preprints contributing to a significant and positive effect of 19.8\% on citation counts, software sharing of 12.9\%, and data sharing of 13.3\%. The cumulative increases reach up to 46\% in additional citations for publications engaging in multiple open science practices. This project contains all the data and code necessary to reproduce our results. The data folder contains two datasets: the full FOSM dataset enriched with further variables as described in our technical report, and a smaller dataset containing the intersection of FOSM and PLOS OSI for control purposes. Next, it contains all the R code required to reproduce our results in the technical report. The code is heavily commented for clarity. The technical report is added to this project as well.
