To reveal the microbiome assembly of manganese biofilms in oligotrophic conditions, biofilters were operated using synthetic groundwater for four months. The microbiomes in the different layers of biofilters were analyzed by Illumina sequencing of 16S rRNA, and the functional populations had been identified. The community analyses indicated that the interaction between manganese-oxidizing bacteria and nitrogen-transforming microbes occurred in oligotrophic conditions.
