Grassland Experiment: Purple Castor Dataset

As a group, we decided to chose purple castors to observe because there was a high abundance of them within the grassland that we were observing. Also, we observed 35 purple castors during this experiment. We laid out the transect tape for 25 metes on the grassland and made sure that we had our respective plant of interest on either side of the transect tape. We chose purple castors that were either on the transect tape or 5 - 10 cm away from it in either direction (left or right). Since, there were four of us, we split into twos so that one group could observe the plants at the beginning of the transect tape and the other group was observing near the end. We observed different characteristics of each purple castor: distance on the transect tape, height, number of leaves, number of flowers and how crowded the area around the plant was. The height was determined by using the transect tape to measure how tall the plant was and the number of leaves was determined by counting all the leaves on each stem of the plant. The number of flowers was determined by counting all the flowers, including the buds, that were found on all the stems of the respective plant. Whether the area around the plant being observed was crowded was determined by the amount of other purple castors within the area. If there was more than two plants, the group decided to give the ranking of a 2. During, the process of counting and measuring, one of the group members was recording all the data that was given by the other members.
