For specimen-level predictions, the test set of all four k-NN models yielded no misclassified flakes.

This suggests that our visible spectrum approach to heat treatment detection is robust and future work to develop a CIE L*a*b*-only method using less expensive and more rugged dedicated colorimeters holds promise.
