昭和34年1月1日における、名瀬市を除く全544市および3097町村に居住する消費世帯から、2人以上の普通世帯は29712世帯、単身者世帯は949世帯が標本世帯として選定された。

On January 1, 1949, a total of 29,712 households with two or more members and 949 single-person households were selected as sample households from all 544 cities and 3,097 towns and villages residing in Japan, excluding the city of Nagase.
