Coping with Unemployment among Young Danes, 1983-1984

The project is an interview survey comprising 151 unemployed and 74 employed (control group) young people between 18 and 24, including both men and women. # A follow-up postal questionnaire was sent out three months after the first interview. The purpose of the project is to examine the connection between stress caused by unemployment, strain (i.e. physical and mental effects of stress) and individual coping and social support. # The project will provide empirical data on coping and social support among young unemployed people, and, furthermore, it will be possible, on the basis of the project, to draw up general lines as regards social measures aiming at preventing physical and mental effects of unemployment
