Advancing Insect Conservation at Dangermond Preserve

This dataset contains regional candidate insect species checklists and supporting occurrence records for the Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve, California. The checklists identify species recorded in EPA ecoregions intersecting the preserve. They provide a regional reference for biodiversity inventory and survey planning; inclusion does not confirm occurrence on the preserve. Contents Original GBIF Darwin Core Archive containing 4,665,086 California Arthropoda records. Four species checklists covering EPA Level III ecoregions 6 and 85 and Level IV ecoregions 6ap and 85a. Checklist column definitions. Two supporting occurrence tables: 1,408,875 Level III records and 43,555 Level IV records. The combined Level III checklists contain 13,634 species; the combined Level IV checklists contain 2,550 species. Lists overlap, and the Level IV occurrence table is a subset of the Level III table. Methods Records were filtered to usable coordinates, insects and the selected ecoregions, followed by species-level identification and taxonomic resolution. Names were matched using the GBIF Species Match API v2 with Catalogue of Life eXtended Release, supplemented by project-reviewed corrections. Subspecies were grouped under species for checklist summaries. Common names were obtained from the Entomological Society of America. Each checklist includes common name, order, family, resolved scientific name, regional occurrence count and documented preserve occurrence. Preserve-occurrence flags also draw on the UCSB Summer 2026 survey and a separate GBIF preserve extract. These additional sources are not included in this deposit. Interpretation and limitations A blank preserve-occurrence flag means occurrence was not documented at the Preserve in the sources examined, rather than confirmed absence. The current snapshot retains five Level III absence records, including one in Level IV, and a Level III scorpion classification requiring review. Source and reuse GBIF.org. (2026, September 28).
