Physical exercise in combination with cognitive training is known to improve memory function and lower the risk for various complex diseases including Alzheimer’s disease. Here we show that prolonged exposure of mice to such an environmental enrichment paradigm mediates long-lasting beneficial effects on memory function and synaptic plasticity even after the end of enrichment training and also provides a cognitive advantage to the offspring. We furthermore show that this effect is mediated via changes in sperm RNA involving the expression of miR-212/132.
