Metagenome data of the diazotrophs in the South China Sea

Nitrogen-fixing microorganisms (diazotrophs) provide a particularly important source of nitrogen to enhance total primary production in the upper layer of water in the open ocean. The nifH gene which encodes the Fe protein subunit of the nitrogenase enzyme was widely used for surveying the diversity, distribution and composition of diazotrophic organisms. We sequenced the nifH gene of diazotrophs in the esturary, the Kuroshio affected zone, the Trichodesmium bloom site and open ocean of the South China Sea and study the compositon distinction of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms in different spatiotemporal locations.
