This dataset includes the results of a study which investigated the quantities of different antioxidant compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids and ascorbic acid in commercially available black, green, rooibos and moringa tea brands in South Africa. It further examined the antioxidant activity of these teas based on their ability to scavenge the free radical, DPPH. The study was conducted in a controlled laboratory environment using teabags of the selected tea brands from which hot water aqueous extracts were prepared followed by chemical analysis. The dataset contains measurements of how much phenolic, flavonoid and ascorbic acid was present in each tea type, and the activity of each against DPPH.
