Genetic traits of Salmonella Infantis in Dutch broiler flocks

Salmonella Infantis is a poultry-adapted serovar that is increasingly reported in broilers In addition an emerging mega-plasmid (pESI), carrying fitness, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance genes, is also being increasingly reported in this serovar. The prevalence, genetic characteristics and risk factors for (pESI-carrying) S. Infantis in broilers in the Netherlands were investigated to provide baseline epidemiological data on (pESI-carrying) S. Infantis.
